Sultanahmet is where most of historic Istanbul stands within walking distance of itself — Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace, all inside the same old peninsula. The street itself

Küçük Ayasofya is a working neighbourhood as much as a historic one — small tea houses and family-run shops, and the mosque the street takes its name from, all a short walk from the water. In the evening it sounds less like a coach tour and more like the call to prayer and the gulls off the Marmara.
